Plunge FAQ
What is a Polar Plunge?
Participants collect donations to support Special Olympics and they take a chilly dip into icy cold water. Each participating University will choose a loction on campus to hold their Plunge! (Athletics facility cold tub, body of water near campus, etc.)
When and where is the Plunge?
The Plunge will be held on each Campus some time between December 5th-March 5th.
Who does the Plunge benefit?
All donations raised will benefit Special Olympics. Funds raised will be used to provide year-round sports training and competition, as well as comprehensive health screening programs individuals with intellectual disabilities.
How do I sign up?
Visit www.MidSouthPlunge.com and select register now and follow instructions on how to get your team or yourself registered. Just give us a call at 502-695-8222. Ask for Mallory.
Who can participate?
Anyone in good physical health over the age of 8. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by their parent or guardian allowing them to participate.
How many people can be on a team?
There is no limit to the number of people that can be on a team. The more the merrier!
How much does it cost to participate?
You must raise or donate a minimum of $75 to take the Plunge! We have lots of tools to help you raise funds and even sample e-mails to make it easier and less time consuming for you!
What do I wear?
Team gear is encouraged! You'll want to wear clothes that are easy to change out of quickly. Don't forget to bring a towel for after you Plunge!
When is the trophy presentation?
The member school that raises the most money will receive the Mid-South Polar Plunge Challenge Cup—will be presented with a trophy to be housed in the university’s athletics offices. The trophy presentation will be the week of April 8th. We will work directly with the Top Fundraising school to schedule the presentation.
What if my friend and family give me cash or checks instead of donating online?
No problem. You can mail them to Special Olympics Kentucky office (105 Lakeview Court, Frankfort, KY 40601, Attn: Mid-SouthPolar Plunge) We will add it to your online fundraising totals. Please make checks payable to Special Olympics Kentucky, and be sure to note on the check who the donation is going to so we can credit you/your team! Funds will be distributed to the appropriate Special Olympics organization AFTER the Mid-South Plunge campaign ends.
