Special Olympics Kentucky

Our mission at Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities, giving them opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and take part in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

Did you know?

There are over 11,300 individuals who participate regularly in our year-round sports competitions.  This year, we expect to have 600 athletes compete at our Summer Games in Richmond.

We offer 15 different sports competitions. Five of our sports are offered at Summer Games those include Bocce, Soccer, Swimming, Gymnastics, and a variety of Track & Field events.

Special Olympics believes that consistent training, with emphasis on physical conditioning, is essential to the development of sports skills.

Through our Healthy Athletes initiative, SOKY is the largest provider of free physical examinations and health screenings to individuals with intellectual disabilities in Kentucky with nearly 400 free screenings provided at Summer Games.

Summer Games and all activities provided by SOKY are made possible by over 1,460 volunteers.
